2026-27 School Year
Family ASL: Explorers
Birth–2nd Grade (Parent Required)
*Tuesdays 9:00–9:50 | 28 Weeks
*Cost for the entire year: $400, plus a $25 materials/administrative fee
*A minimum of seven students is needed for this class to make.
*This interactive family-style class introduces young learners to American Sign Language through movement, repetition, songs, stories, and play-based language exposure. Parents attend alongside their children and learn the signs as well, equipping families to reinforce communication at home.
*Students will build foundational vocabulary related to everyday life—family, animals, food, emotions, routines—and begin forming simple signed phrases.
*Class activities will also include signing Bible stories and Christian songs.
*This class emphasizes early language development, memory-building through movement, and joyful communication.
ASL Foundations
Grades 3–5
*Tuesdays 10:00–11:00 | 28 Weeks
*Cost for the entire year: $400, plus a $25 materials/administrative fee
*A minimum of seven students is needed for this class to make.
*ASL Foundations builds a strong vocabulary base while developing conversational confidence in a highly interactive environment. Students will learn practical, everyday signs and begin forming complete sentences using basic ASL grammar structures.
*Class activities will also include signing Bible stories and Christian songs.
*Through games, partner practice, storytelling, and visual learning strategies, students will grow comfortable expressing themselves in ASL. We will also introduce foundational Deaf culture topics such as facial grammar, visual communication norms, and the importance of accessibility.
*By the end of the year, students will be able to engage in short, signed conversations and demonstrate understanding of core language concepts.
ASL Bridge
Grades 6–8
*Tuesdays 11:15–12:15 | 28 Weeks
*Cost for the entire year: $400, plus a $25 materials/administrative fee
*A minimum of seven students is needed for this class to make.
*This middle school course will teach expressive and receptive signing skills while introducing structured ASL grammar and sentence formation. Students will learn vocabulary, practice dialogue-building, and develop confidence in signed conversations.
*Class activities will also include signing Bible stories and Christian songs.
*We will incorporate role shifting, question structures, and classifiers (introductory level). Cultural discussions will deepen students’ understanding of the Deaf community and appropriate communication practices.
*A major emphasis will be placed on game play, role reversing, and storytelling.
High School - ASL 1
Grades 9–12
Tuesdays 12:45 – 2:00 | 28 Weeks
*Cost for the entire year: $400, plus a $25 materials/administrative fee
*A minimum of seven students is needed for this class to make.
*ASL 1 is a high school course using the book, Learning American Sign Language by Tom Humphries and Carol Padden. Students will develop foundational proficiency in vocabulary, grammar, receptive comprehension, and expressive signing skills.
*Class time will include structured instruction, guided practice, conversational drills, receptive activities, and Deaf culture studies. Students will complete homework assignments, quizzes, expressive signing assessments, and a cumulative final evaluation.
*Class activities will also include signing Bible stories and Christian songs.
*By the end of the course, students will be able to:
-Engage in basic conversations
-Use appropriate facial grammar
-Demonstrate understanding of ASL sentence structure
-Show cultural awareness of the Deaf community
High School - ASL 2
Grades 9–12
*Tuesdays 2:00–3:15 | 28 Weeks
*Cost for the entire year: $400, plus a $25 materials/administrative fee
*A minimum of seven students is needed for this class to make.
*Prerequisite: Successful completion of ASL 1 or instructor approval.
*ASL 2 builds upon the foundation established in ASL 1 and continues through the second half of Learning American Sign Language by Tom Humphries and Carol Padden. Students will refine expressive clarity, increase receptive speed, and develop more advanced grammar usage.
*Class activities will also include signing Bible stories and Christian songs.
*Course components include:
-Expanded dialogue work
-Role shifting and storytelling
-Classifier expansion
-Cultural analysis and discussion
-Receptive exams
-Expressive signing interviews
*Students will demonstrate growing fluency and conversational endurance while developing deeper appreciation for Deaf culture and communication norms.
Payment
*There is a non-refundable $25 materials/administrative fee per student per year.
*Payment is required upon enrollment. You may pay in full or pay half now with the remainder due on/by December 1, 2026.
*For families participating in a homeschool partnership program, there is a payment option for that as well. You will need to pay the materials/administrative fee out-of-pocket to hold your family's spot(s). Estrellas Language Academy will then bill the partnership program for the course cost on your behalf. For the purpose of our ASL classes, we are partnered with Hamilton and Grand Haven.
